How to stay hydrated without relying on water
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; you need to stay hydrated to ensure you’re performing at your best. Being just a little dehydrated can make you sluggish and irritable and cause headaches and dry skin. And nobody wants that.
Of course, being told that you need to drink this many glasses or that many litres of water can get a little boring, and so can water. That’s why we’ve come up with four different ways you can stay hydrated without constantly drinking water!
Fresh squeezed juice
Fresh squeezed fruit juice is a great source of hydration, it’s full of vitamins and nutrients and it’s a nice change from regular water. Juices bought from the shops are passable, but the best way to get all the goodness out of those fruits is to do it yourself. Take the time to squeeze some fresh orange juice and you’ll really taste the difference.
Reduce alcohol
Staying hydrated isn’t just about adding various fluids to your daily routine, you can also help your body out by avoiding alcohol. It’s no secret that booze, in all its forms, is a diuretic that can leave you dehydrated. In summer we all like to enjoy a cocktail or two, but if you want to avoid feeling sluggish and run down try not to go crazy at the bar. Also, having a glass of water between drinks and before you go to bed is also a good way to counteract the effects of alcohol.
Take tea breaks or make iced tea
Tea and coffee have a mild diuretic effect, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re dehydrating. There’s a lot of water in a cup of tea and getting up for a tea break can be a welcome escape from your desk, as well as helping you stay hydrated. If, like the rest of us, you’re sweating at the thought of a steaming cuppa in this heat, why not try making ice tea or even iced herbal tea for a refreshing change.
O.R.S Hydration Tablets
All of the above are great ways to change things up when you’re trying to stay hydrated but sometimes you might find that you just don’t have the time to try them. So when life gets too hectic and you need a satisfying sip or something you know will help with hydration, drop an O.R.S tablet into normal drinking water, let it dissolve, and drink. O.R.S contains all the electrolytes and essential minerals you need to stay hydrated, and it comes in a range of delicious flavours so you’ll never get bored!
